A lonely hearts killer is targeting middle-aged women at some of England’s best-known pubs—including one torn down 80 years ago. Impossible, right? So how could Arthur Bryant have seen one of the victims enter the pub only moments before her death? And what do an 18th century mystic, the Knights Templar, the secret history of pubs and an astounding religious relic have to do with it all?
As public tension mounts, the sleuths’ superiors are determined to shut the Peculiar Crimes Unit down for good. With Bryant consulting a memory specialist and his partner John May experiencing a brush with mortality, do these two living legends have enough life left to stop a murderous conspiracy—and a deadly cupid targeting one of their own?

I love the Bryant and May books. They are intriguing, clever and off-beat. The characters, each and every one of them, are interesting and well developed. I never give one a miss. I just hope Mr. Fowler is busy working because I don't know if I can wait a long time for the next one.

The Bryant/May mystery series is one of my favorties. This latest addition does not disappoint. The characters are interesting and believable and the story keeps you guessing while holding your attention till the end.

I love wry Brit wit anyway, but my husband and also a dear friend are
CSIs so the Peculiar Crimes are of great interest. Also love Hamish MacBeath.

This book is a quirky yet endearing mystery that keeps you guessing right to the end. Unfortunately, when it does end you find yourself wishing that you didn't have to say goodbye to characters that have started to feel like family. Well-plotted and original!

Fowler is one of the best mystery writers around. His Bryant/May series makes for enjoyable reading. Looking forward to the next adventure of the PCU!!
