Welcome to Dunfermline, Scotland, circa 1927. Aitken’s Emporium, the smallish town’s leading shop, is about to celebrate its jubilee. However, the disappearance of young heiress Mirren Aitken puts a damper on the festivities, prompting the family to summon Dandy Gilver. But the amateur sleuth barely has time to set down her luggage before things go from bad to worse: Mirren is found with a bullet in her head—and her mother confesses to the murder.
The police are unconvinced; they believe Mirren committed suicide. Dandy has a hunch that the truth is murkier still. The socialite detective’s investigation soon uncovers an intricate web of family secrets. And on this most unsuitable day for a murder, Mirren may not be the last victim.

Despite the author's ability to create a likeable heroine and desciptive setting, I found myself unable to stay interested in this story & cast of characters. After a bit of action in the beginning featuring Dandy's husband, it's all downhill from there. I found myself both not caring about the resolution of the mystery and wanting someone else to get killed to get some action in the storyline!!! Very boring:(
