Dead and Gone

For mind-reading barmaid Sookie Stackhouse, the day-to-day activities of the supernatural communities in and around Bon Temps, Louisiana, are of vital interest. She is blood-bound to the leader of the vampires, a friend to the local werewolf pack, works for a man who is a pure shapeshifter and has a younger brother who’s a werepanther. And she herself, though only some supes can detect it, has fairy blood in her veins.

Mainstream society has known about the Undead for years, but most humans aren’t up on the shifting power dynamics in the paranormal community. To them, the Vamps are mysterious seductive creatures—undead and nonhuman, but a recognized part of society nonetheless. They don’t even know about the Weres. But that’s about to change.

The Were community has finally decided to follow the lead of the Vamps and reveal their existence to the ordinary world. It all appears to be going smoothly, but tensions rise when the body of a werepanther is found in the parking lot where Sookie works. The human cops think that a human did it. The panthers think it was her Were brother, Jason. Sookie sets out to clear his name—a task made complicated when she finds out that her life, too, is in danger….

Does Not Disappoint!

I have read the whole series multiple times, and each time is better than the last! Ms. Harris pulls you into Sookie's world and you find yourself both laughing and crying with her. The entire series is a must read for all Vampire/Were enthusiasts!

My Thoughts on 'Dead And Gone'...
July 13, 2010

I just didn?t like this book. For me, it was missing something that the other books in the series have. It wasn?t a good fun magical mystery. It read to me like Charlaine Harris was forced to write another Sookie book without a creative desire behind it. It started out great and with a lot of potential, and the ending was satisfying. The Weres have decided that it?s time for them to come out of hiding too, after watching how the humans handled the vampires? Great Revelation. There?s a breaking news report on TV, and the Weres change into their animal and back again to their human shape, in front of humans. But Sookie wanders why Jason and his new friend Mel didn?t join in the Great Reveal. Could it be because they can only partially transform into a panther, because they were bitten and not born Weres, or is it because of Calvin?s orders? While Sam is away, Sookie looks after the bar, and finds Jason?s pregnant ex-wife Crystal crucified in the employee parking lot. What a way to start! Who could have done something so cruel, hateful, and inhumane? The local members of the Fellowship of the Sun or someone with something more personal to resolve are the primary suspects. In order to protect Sookie, Eric tricks her for her own good. This is very good and very bad for Sookie. Bill Compton is still after Sookie?s love and affection, and her true feelings under her hatred towards him after what he did to her surfaces at the end of this book. In the meantime, Eric and Sookie?s bond and relationship flourishes, with some steamy sex too! After finding out about her family?s supernatural heritage, Niall warns Sookie that her life is in grave danger. Things in the fairy world are in turmoil and war is brewing to the surface. Charlaine Harris gives us a small insight into the fairy hierarchy and the lives of those who are true blood fairies and not. After a very close near miss while in her garden weeding, Sookie realizes that she has favors...

Sookie just doesn't get a break! It's just one thing after another... I love all of the charecters, and they all love Sookie. This Sookie Stackhouse series is like Layes Chips, you just can't read one! they are ALL good! Must read them all
