Love Hurts

In 2008, two men entered a home in Emory, Texas, and a blood bath ensued. The intruders used guns and a samurai sword to make sure Terry Caffey, his wife and two young sons wouldn’t survive. Then they set the house ablaze. But Terry, shot five times, managed to crawl to a neighbor’s home, thankful his 16-year-old daughter, Erin, was not home at the time of the carnage. That she was behind it, that she was in fact watching from a car as her boyfriend and a pal slaughtered her family, never entered his mind. If Terry and his wife hadn’t forbidden Erin to date 19-year-old Charlie Wilkinson would the family still be alive? Love Hurts is Keith Elliot Greenberg’s blistering true account of a parent/child feud carried to the extreme.

Disappointing
April 06, 2011

I had really high expectations for this book. However, it wasn't cohesive at all, there were too many insignificant characters to keep track of and it just didn't read well. Tragic story indeed, but could have been written better in my opinion.

Honest, balanced portrayal of a modern-day tragedy.

I have family near Emory, where much of the story took place, so could visualize much of the area. The author does a good job painting an honest, respectful portrait of the people involved. There is little more to say about the story except that it is a horrible tragedy for all involved, and while the book gives insight into the characters and possible motivation, and Terry Caffey's story is truly inspirational, I don't think anyone can yet say exactly why this happened. So many lives lost and wasted.

This is my family

I'm ashamed to say that Charlie Wilkinson is my 2nd cousin. This is a very intense story.
