Wonderful Books!

I have loved Lord Peter Wimsey since I read my first Dorothy L. Sayers book. I enjoy these two books as the best of the Lord Peter-Harriet Vane books. I find their love story very moving, and the mystery was fabulous. I recommend these to anyone who enjoys the English style mystery books!

Great and not so
January 26, 2008

I must admit I'm addicted to Lord Peter, and I loved the first three Harriet mysteries. Besides the feeling that these are very educated people, and trying to understand all the literary and historical allusions, all the Lord Peter books I've read so far give me just enough clues to feel I'm on the right track with enough mystery to keep me guessing. That said, the last mystery, when Lord Peter and Harriet marry, was a bit of a disappointment. I read these books for the mystery, and though the romance was tantalizing, the marriage was trite. it seemed Dorothy Sayers just couldn't keep from writing her girl hood fantasy. Oh, well, I still have plenty of Lord Peter books I haven't read yet.

If possible, even worse proofing!
December 05, 2006

Classics, a joy to re-read. But the proofreading was even worse than in vol. 1! One phrase in Greek showed up as a jumble of nonsense roman letters and symbols, even though Greek words appeared fine on other pages. Shameful treatment of delightful content.
