this is my second book by this author - I found this book a suspenseful page turner. What would happen if - you were using your friend's house when he was away and someone broke in??? and while the bad guys were there, your friend and his family returned home??? the book is told from a few perspectives. Most of the character perspectives (voices) are male. As several of the other reviewers noted, there is profanity in the book, and some parts of the book are violent. Barclay writes of cohesive, loving families who face adversity, sorrow, stress but throughout all the time we are with them, also share love. I am at the point w/ this author that I see his name and buy the book. By the way, my husband also read this book and he also found it suspenseful. This was the second book I read by this author. Right now, this book is on "clearance" - for less than you can get it in paperback, unless you buy it used - what a deal!! Enjoy

This could have been a great book but I couldn't get over the profanity. Don't get me wrong, profanity is realistic and needed in certain situations, but the profanity in this book seems to be used more than necessary. The author also jumps around a lot; no consistency from chapter to chapter. It was good, not a waste of my money, but I am not sure that I would buy another book from this author. Since this was my first of his I would be unsure if this is his normal writing style.

This is my second read by Barclay and I really enjoyed it. His books are fast paced and real page turners. I like the characters he creates and always hate when the stories end! I enjoyed his first book a little more I think, but I would definately recommend this one. I am looking forward to his latest! Harlan Coban is a favorite author of mine also, but Linwood Barclay is now added to my list of suspense favorites!!!

This book was ok, not great. More profanity than I like. Do kids really talk to their parents like that? I had the killer figured out. I thought it was obvious. If you like suspense & unexpected plot twists read a Harlan Coben book. He is the best that I have read.
