The Price of Malice

Archer Mayor’s The Price of Malice finds Vermont Bureau of Investigation chief Joe Gunther having a tough time focusing on his latest homicide. His girlfriend, Lyn Silva, left him after he told her that her fisherman father and brother, believed lost at sea off the coast of Maine, may actually have been murdered. Joe had found their boat in a boathouse owned by a notorious drug dealer, implicating dealings far less honorable than fishing.

Leaving his team to work the homicide—irritating both colleagues and bosses—Joe follows Lyn to Maine to ask some questions. It’s beginning to look like her father and brother weren’t the good guys Lyn always believed them to be, and whoever killed them might do the same to Lyn if she keeps pushing.
