The Lineup

A great recurring character in a series you love is like an old friend: You know their strange quirks and haunted pasts and root for them every time they face danger. But where do some of the most fascinating sleuths in mystery come from?

In The Lineup, your favorite authors reveal how they created their beloved heroes. What inspired Michael Connelly to make Harry Bosch a Vietnam vet tunnel rat? Why is Lee Child’s Jack Reacher a drifter? What does Jonathan Kellerman have to say about Alex Delaware, Laura Lippman about Tess Monaghan or Robert B. Parker—via Susan Silverman—about Spenser? These and 17 more bestselling authors tell all…or let their creations do the talking…in this fun, dishy and insightful must-read for mystery fans.

If you ever wanted to know more about your favorite character in a mystery series, this is the place to find it. Stories written by some of your favorite authors tell about their characters came into being, how they got their name and much more. Some authors discuss their writing habits and some just let their characters talk. I learned a great deal and had a good time reading it.
