Heralded as the "Queen of Romantic Suspense," Victoria Holt was a true mistress of the genre, giving us such timeless classics as Bride of Pendorric and Mistress of Mellyn. Lord of the Far Island is one of her best. The tale of a young orphan named Ellen, it follows her adventures after a betrothal to a man she admires—but does not love—ends in her suitor's mysterious death. Then she finds herself wooed by Jago Kellaway, an enigmatic lord claiming to be her long-lost guardian. The man makes her heart race like never before, but Ellen can't help but think that she's fallen into a web of deceit and hidden motives. When he offers her the fabled Necklace of the Kellaway Castle, is it really a token of his love…or a dark symbol of death?

I read all of Victoria Holt, Phyllis Whitney, Mary Stewart and Dorothy Eden when I was young. I'm so thrilled this club is resurrecting their books. I love gothic stories and, to me, Holt is the best. Thanks Literary Guild.

If the club doesn't get her next one, and all the rest, I will be disappointed enough to drop out. It's past time they did up her books again, and I wish they would keep them coming faster. Perhaps they should start a separate club for classics, like their old International Collector's Library. Only now Victoia Holt, Dorothy Eden, Phyllis Whitney, Mary Stewart, Daphne Dumaurier, etc., would be classics just like the standbys such as Dumas, Forrester, Orczy, etc.

I am reading this book now - i just remembered how good her books are- i got the book out of my mothers attic - i bought it from doubleday book club 1975 you changes the picture on the dustcover and my book is turning a little tanish on the dustcover but the printing is sharp- but quite small. I was a young when i bought this book now i am 67. the story is just as great as the first time i read it. I have alot more of her books in the attic all from doubleday. Your books have lasted all these years.

The name Victoria Holt says it all, the very best in reading enjoyment. I will be devestated if the club does not do up ALL of her books!
