Will being apart help Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes solve a devilishly difficult mystery—or make them easier targets?
Having escaped the clutches of a madman, Mary secretly makes her way back to London with Holmes’ young grandchild in tow, picking up a mysterious ally along the way. Meanwhile, Holmes flees to Holland, hiding his wounded son and plotting his next move; for the villains who nearly killed them all are still alive and laying traps to finish them off.
With The God of the Hive—the powerful conclusion to The Language of Bees—Laurie R. King weaves a jawdropping cat-and-mouse tale, in which Mary and Holmes must draw upon their considerable wits to survive a foe who intends to see the entire Holmes bloodline bled dry.

In a way I felt that Ms. King 'cheated' us by making this a direct continuation of The Language of Bees. This really is Volume 2 of that book as neither the crime nor the mystery was solved in the first. That being said it contained all the expected elements and more. I am a fan of this series (in fact all Ms. King's writings) and am looking forward to the next novel. Had this been a standalone book I would have given it 5 stars.

I've read King's entire Sherlock Holmes/Mary Russell series and each one keeps me wanting more. This one was no exception. As usual, great characters and unique plot made the book a joy to read. There were a couple of very predictable events but that didn't spoil the story.
