In A Stranger in the Family, Diamond Dagger Award winner Robert Barnard pens us a deeply moving mystery about a man’s search for his past.
When Kit Philipson, the beloved child of a professional family in Scotland, learns that he was adopted, vague memories begin to surface: his nursery, pictures on the wall, the smell of his birth mother when she'd been cooking. Sometimes there are more disturbing memories—of strangers leading him away from the only family he had ever known. A search of old newspaper files reveals that a 3-year-old boy was abducted from his parents' holiday hotel in Sicily, 1989. Now, 20 years later, Kit sets out to rediscover his true identity…but his inquiries may unearth secrets some never want revealed.

To me, the opening was a little difficult and rather off-putting, but once I got into the story I found it witty and intelligent. Barnard is noted for his wry insights and this book is filled with them. If you want something different in suspense--this is the book for you.
