Catch up with Charlaine Harris' first three Sookie Stackhouse novels, and the basis of the HBO hit series, True Blood. This new SFBC edition of Dead in Dixie features an exclusive introduction by the author and includes a “Sliver of Night” ribbon bookmark!
Dead Until Dark: Louisiana cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse can read minds, which makes people...uncomfortable. Then along comes Bill—and Sookie can’t hear a word he’s thinking. That’s because Bill is a vampire who runs with other undead. So when one of her coworkers is killed, Sookie fears she’s next....
Living Dead in Dallas: First, Sookie finds a body in her car. Then a beastly creature gives her a poisonous lashing. Luckily, the vampires save her life. That means she can’t refuse when one of them asks her to travel to Dallas and use her telepathic abilities to find a missing bloodsucker.
Club Dead: Sookie’s undead boyfriend, Bill, is on a secret assignment and only his sinister and sexy boss Eric knows where to find him. Resigned, Sookie heads for Jackson, Mississippi, to mingle with the über-underworld at Club Dead. When she finally finds Bill—in an act of serious betrayal—she’s not sure whether to save him…or sharpen some stakes.

My sister introduced me to these just before From Dead To Worse came out. Never watched the show & don't intend to because it's never the same as the books. Since I borrowed her books in the beginning I started buying each of the new ones as they came out & am so glad that I did. Have the newest(last) one ordered and am filling in my collection after returning my sisters'. The short stories are great also but I'd just like to find all of them. Sorry someone didn't like them but maybe they should stick to tv because the writing is far from substandard.

I have read all the Sookie Stackhouse novels starting with True Blood back in 2006. I started watching the HBO shows when they came out in 2009 and have bought all the DVD's afterwards. Charlaine Harris these are the best Vampire novel series on the market today. I have read others but none compare to these. Thank you for such a great series. Can hardly wait for the next book to come out.

I picked this up to explore the latest and greatest in the recent glut of Vampire Writings(tm) that has everyone so gaga. After the sparkly ones in Twilight, these vampires aren't much better. To base a television show off a book series, I'd expected more. I've been struggling to put my finger on why these books are not appealing to me. After three, I think I am nearing a conclusion. They'd make great Novellas but not Novels. The author doesn't seem to have the material to fill the pages.
I'll grant this a 2 star rating, only because characterization grew as the three books completed, however, the writing was substandard and the action pitiable at best.
