The little girl appeared in Central Park: red-haired, blue-eyed, smiling, perfect—except for the blood on her shoulder. It fell from the sky, she said, while she was looking for her uncle, who turned into a tree. Poor child, people thought. And then they found the body in the tree.
For Mallory, newly returned to the Special Crimes Unit, there is something about the girl she understands. Mallory is damaged, they say, but she can tell a kindred spirit. And this one will lead her to extraordinary crimes: murders stretching back 15 years, blackmail and complicity and a particular cruelty only someone with Mallory's history could fully recognize.
In The Chalk Girl by Carol O’Connell, Mallory will deal with them all—in her own way.

I need more than 5 stars to rate this one! I admit I laughed when asked for a review of Carol O'Connell's latest Mallory book. Can it be possible there are some book lovers who haven't discovered this series? Novels featuring Mallory are easily my favorites! The main characters actually feel like old friends now. I am thrilled whenever I hear of a new book in this series. These are so well written. An intense, intelligent, beautiful character is Mallory. These books are suspenseful can't-put-it-down experiences that never disappoint. There is only one complaint I can think of: Carol O'Connell doesn't write new ones as quickly as I can read them! When any book is a can't-put-it-down mix of mystery and humor they end too soon.
So...do I like that series? I named my beautiful, intelligent collie "Mallory". She certainly lives up to that name!
