Already an international bestseller, The Keeper of Lost Causes by Jussi Adler-Olsen is the thrilling first of a series involving chief detective Carl Mørck, one of Copenhagen’s best homicide investigators—until a shootout goes horribly wrong. In the aftermath, a guilt-ridden Mørck finds himself placed in charge of Department Q, the poorly manned cold case unit, and he’s feeling wretchedly desolate when one case in particular catches his eye. The world assumes that Merete Lynngaard, a politician missing for over five years, is dead. But soon Mørck, with the help of an intrepid new partner, will discover she is the victim of a bizarre, brutally vicious act of vengeance. And Mørck must save her, for in doing so lies his own redemption.

Scandinavian suspense has a unique voice. This book falls into that genre. The main character is interessting and fun, the crime dark and twisted with deep psychic motives. I enjoyed the read and found the ending to be a surprise.

This is a great example of Scandinavian crime fiction. The detective is complelling and has a wry sense of humor. The ending seemed over-the-top weird but I guess that's all part of the dark atmosphere. I hope to read more about Carl Morck in future novels.

I have come to enjoy more books translated from Scandinavian countries. They are well written and logical.
I shall buy his next novel.

Shades of Stieg Larsson.....great book. Fell in love with the book's character Carl Morck and the book's author, Jussi Adler-Olsen. Can't wait for the next one.
