On a winter day in 2008, retired naval officer Håkan von Enke vanishes during his daily walk near Stockholm. Officially, the case has nothing to do with Det. Kurt Wallander—but personally, it concerns him deeply, as his daughter is engaged to the missing man’s son. And, at von Enke’s 75th birthday party, Kurt had noticed the old man’s disturbed demeanor as he talked vaguely about an incident from his past.
Sticking his nose where it doesn’t belong, the veteran detective uses all his old tricks to dig into Håkan’s naval career. Then Mrs. von Enke goes missing, and Kurt finds himself with a host of clues…but no answers in sight.
The first Kurt Wallander novel in a decade, The Troubled Man by Henning Mankell is well worth the wait!

This is the last Kurt Wallender novel and a real page-turner. You get into the workings of the detectives mind and how he searches out every possible clue. I liked the setting in Sweden and a peek into international espionage.
