Can photographer Sarah Bain find a killer before the police do?
Victorian photographer Sarah Bain takes photos of crime scenes for London’s Daily World, the business venture of her sole client, fabulously wealthy and powerful banker Sir Gerald Mariner.
One snowy morning, Sarah and her friends Lord Hugh Staunton and street urchin Mick O’Reilly are summoned to a particularly gory crime scene. Pub owner Harry Warbrick has been hanged and decapitated. He was once England’s top hangman—and he’s met the same fate he inflicted on criminals.
Sir Gerald announces that the Daily World will solve Harry Warbrick’s murder before the police do. The contest pits Sarah against the man she loves, Police Constable Barrett. Is there a connection between Harry Warbrick’s murder and the notorious “Baby-Butcher”?
